In addition, they can performs several advanced breast augmentation techniques, such as the dual plane technique, to meet patients' aesthetic goals.
Gardner Plastic Surgery offers two variations of breast augmentation according to where the implant is placed: under or over the muscle. Depending on the patient's request, your surgeon will create incisions under the breast (in the inframammary fold) or around the nipple.
After creating the incision, your surgeon dissects a pocket in front of or behind the pectoral muscle, depending on the amount of existing breast tissue and where the nipple is. He will then gently insert the implant and artfully contours the breast to help you achieve beautiful, natural-looking results.
In addition to breast augmentation, Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro may suggest that patients combine their surgery with other breast enhancement procedures in order to yield ideal results. Many mothers and others who are unhappy with the changes in their breasts combine breast augmentation with a breast lift to obtain fuller, more youthful-looking breasts.

Breast Augmentation and Breast Implants FAQ
Who are good candidates for breast augmentation?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 300,000 North American women seek out breast augmentation and related cosmetic procedures every year. The best candidates for breast augmentation in Naples, FL tend to be women who maintain a healthy lifestyle and are within close range of their ideal weights.
Candidates need to maintain their good health both before and after implant procedures, and need to closely follow the pre- and post-operative guidance provided by Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro. Maintaining one’s weight is a key component of this guidance, as changes in weight can affect the size, shape, and proportion of the breasts. Smoking is also strongly discouraged, and those who smoke will be urged to quit.
How do I determine whether I need implants, a breast lift, or both?
Do implants “drop” into place over time? How long does this take?
Silicone- and saline-filled implants can often appear to be too highly positioned on the chest for a time after surgery. This apparent high positioning is typically caused by breast tissue swelling and skin tightening due to the breasts’ increased volume. This should not be cause for alarm, though, as many women’s implants begin to “drop,” or settle into lower, more natural-looking positions after about 3 weeks. Note, though, that the settling process can take as long as six months.
Breast massage may work to a degree in speeding the settling process, but massage is not recommended for those who have opted for textured implants. Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro will provide a full preoperative briefing on potential postoperative issues and concerns such as breast dropping.

What types of implants does Gardner Plastic Surgery recommend?
Many women considering breast implants in Naples, FL struggle with deciding what type of implant is right for them. The choice between silicone implants, saline implants, or structured implants is not easy, and ultimately the woman seeking augmentation needs to make the choice. Saline implants are perceived as having the best safety profile, while silicone implants are popular due to their natural feel that closely approximates breast tissue. Structured implants, which use internal structuring with saline to approximate the look and feel of breast tissue serve as a recent compromise between the other two.Along with saline and silicone implants, Gardner Plastic Surgery offers the Ideal Implant® as its structured option. No matter which breast implant type chosen, Dr. Gardner and Dr. Baccaro have the requisite training, experience, skill, and cosmetic surgical artistry needed to provide you with the fuller, more youthful-looking breasts.

How soon can I return to normal activities after breast implant surgery?
Typically, most patients are mobile within a day or two after surgery, and any resultant discomfort is kept under control with prescription pain medicine. You will be able to shower and tend to other personal hygiene regimens almost immediately and will return to our office for follow up examination and stitch removal (unless dissolvable suture was used) within a week. Sexual relations can be resumed as soon as the desire strikes, though the breasts need to be treated gently during recovery.
Patients are usually able to return to work within a week; however, any work activities requiring lifting, pushing or stretching of the arms should be conducted with care and modified or avoided to limit pain and discomfort. Submuscular positioned implants (which comprise the majority) generally take longer recovery times before becoming pain free. A return to exercise routines should also be done with care and attention to any discomfort. After two weeks of recovery only a few exercises are likely to impact the incision or breast implant placement, but strenuous exercises focused on the pectoralis muscles—such as bench presses or push-ups—should be avoided. Most patients can resume their full, vigorous workout routines after a month or so of recovery.
What kinds of dressings or bra will I have to wear after breast augmentation surgery and when can I resume wearing an underwire?
Following surgery, steri-strips are typically applied over small incisions and a surgical-recovery bra with minimal dressings is worn. This surgical bra will usually be used for a week or more. Depending upon your implants and surgery, your surgical bra may put pressure on the upper edge of the breast or implant to hold it in a lower position to account for implants that initially tend to sit high on the chest. This high position (see question regarding “implant drop”) is caused by the need for the fold under the breast to stretch into a new relaxed shape to account for the larger implant.
Once the breast implants have dropped into the desired position, you can opt for the bra of your choice. Those who have undergone a large breast augmentation should always wear a bra during exercise and even normal daily activities. Underwire bras can also be worn after the implants have settled into their desired positions. Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro will provide you with further details regarding implant dropping and appropriate bra usage.
