Hi, today I wanted to talk to you about nose surgery, or what we call rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is a surgery that patients seek out generally because either they don’t like their nose, or they’ve had some kind of traumatic injury affecting the shape of their nose, or they even have difficulty breathing. During a rhinoplasty procedure, I work on different components of the nose to address certain common issues. For example, a bump on the back of the nose, or a crooked nose, or a tip of the nose which is too big or boxy. If you think nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is something you may be interested in, don’t hesitate to call and come in for your consultation.

For patients to obtain results that are in balance with the rest of their facial features, it is important to personalize the treatment to address the patient’s unique concerns and goals. Dr. Baccaro, Dr. Walsh, and Dr. Bonett meet with patients on a one-on-one basis during a consultation to discuss their concerns with their noses and to create a unique treatment plan that will meet all of their needs. Our doctors take a picture of each patient and reviews the ideal features of the nose, then show what can be done to correct any differences the patient has from the ideal. This may include nose surgery that removes dorsal humps, alters bulbous nasal tips, thins wide noses, and/or changes the size and shape of the nose.

Dr. Baccaro, Dr. Walsh, and Dr. Bonett use two techniques to perform nose surgery: open and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is a more invasive approach that is reserved for reshaping the nasal structure, while closed rhinoplasty is typically used for minor changes. Both techniques should yield stunning results under our plastic surgeons’ care.

Recovering from Nose Surgery

Following the procedure, the nose will be taped and sometimes have a splint over it. Bruising around the eyes and nose can be expected, and can last seven to ten days. Many patients can begin to enjoy the results of their nose surgery within a few weeks after the procedure; however, as swelling slowly subsides, the full subtleties and details of the results should become apparent within months of the procedure.

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis by our cosmetic surgeon, so patients should arrange to have a ride take them to their homes following the procedure. Our surgeons recommend that patients keep their heads elevated during the first few weeks of their recoveries, as well as the application of a cold compresses to minimize swelling.

Like all surgical procedures, rhinoplasty has risks for complications, but patients should feel at ease and secure with Dr. Baccaro and Dr. Walsh, due to the outstanding training they have received.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty can help you breathe better if the septum is deviated inside the nose. This may assist not only in breathing, but also with snoring. It is done through incisions placed inside the nose, and can often be combined with rhinoplasty. Depending on your personal preference and your aesthetic goal, nose surgery may be right for you. Speak with Dr. Baccaro, Dr. Walsh, or Dr. Bonett about your options!
