Male Procedures

The Most Common Plastic Surgery Procedures Favored by Men

Plastic surgery has long been associated with women more than men, and the latest statistics suggest a near 9-1 ratio of cosmetic surgeries conducted on women compared to men. That ratio isn’t likely going to change soon, given that the number of female plastic surgeries increased by 33% since 2000, while the number of male plastic surgeries declined by 27%.

Females also dominate the market for minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, with women representing 93% of all such procedures performed in 2020, compared to 7% performed on men. The number of men seeking minimally invasive cosmetic options has been increasing, though, with the number of such procedures increasing by 29% since 2000.

The skilled cosmetic surgeons at Southwest Florida’s Naples Plastic Surgery are familiar with this gender dynamic, as most of their patients are females. That said, Dr. Paul M. Gardner, Dr. Leo M. Baccaro, and Dr. Mark Walsh also have male patients, and the surgeons have seen an uptick in requests for some male-oriented plastic surgeries. Let’s take a closer look at the most common plastic surgeries sought by men.

Top Plastic Surgery Procedures Performed on Men

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more men (65,121) underwent nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) than any other plastic surgery in 2020. The procedure, it should be noted, is also the most performed invasive procedure (287,434) on women. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) was the second-most performed (45,806) procedure for men in 2020, followed by cheek implant (28,638), liposuction (22,815), and ear surgery (22,464). Other popular plastic surgeries for men include breast reduction, facelift, neck lift, and hair restoration.

While the number of men seeking eyelid surgery and liposuction has declined since 2000, the number seeking cheek implants has grown by an astounding 1,616%. The number of men seeking ear surgery (otoplasty) has increased by 31% since 2000. Other procedures that have experienced significant increases among the male population include buttock lift, up 644%; lip augmentation, 455%; lower body lift, 248%; and thigh lift, 139%.

Male Procedures at Naples Plastic Surgery

Naples Plastic Surgery specializes in several male plastic surgery procedures and has earned a stellar reputation in southwest Florida performing male breast reduction, eyelid surgery, liposuction, ear reshaping, and hair restoration. Male breast reduction surgery is used to treat gynecomastia, a medical condition caused by hormonal imbalances that can lead to the sometimes-embarrassing growth of fat and tissue under the breasts. A combination of surgical techniques and liposuction removes the excess growth depending upon its composition and scope.

Male Liposuction is a successful way to remove genetically induced fat deposits on the hips, buttocks, stomach, and thighs that resist traditional diet and exercise weight-loss methods. As a body contouring procedure, liposuction can help men recover the slimmer, toned physiques they sported in their youth.

Whether because of genetics, advancing age, or a combination of the two, men can develop prominent under-eye bags and circles and drooping eyelids (ptosis). This can make them look chronically fatigued despite being well-rested, and ptosis can also impair vision. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) relies on strategically placed incisions, removing excess fat, muscle, and skin, and the tightening of overlying skin with the closure of the incisions.

Malformed, oversized, or asymmetrical ears can be especially damaging to the self-esteem of children, which makes ear reshaping (otoplasty) one of the most frequently requested plastic surgeries for children. Naples Plastic Surgery specializes in otoplasty for children and for men who decide it’s time to correct a long-perceived problem or have suffered trauma to an ear. Our practice uses two different techniques, both of which involve a combination of tissue removal and cartilage reshaping.

Naples Plastic Surgery offers men six different hair restoration options to help replace hair lost or thinned due to genetics, stress, disease, medical treatments, or age. These options have proven successful at giving men a permanent solution for hair loss and thinning, and a restored sense of self-confidence.
