Dr. Baccaro on Lower Blepharoplasty

Video Transcript – Dr. Baccaro on Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty, also known as a lower eyelid lift, is a surgery aimed at improving the aesthetics of the lower eyelid. As with all tissues, the lower eyelids lose elasticity over time. This laxity might give the appearance of being tired, sad, or angry.

Another common complaint that can be addressed with this procedure is a deep tear trough, which is the junction between the lower eyelid and the side of the nose. The procedure is done by carefully removing excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissue, and then resuspending and tightening the tissues to achieve a pleasing shape and contour.

For healthy patients, the procedure can be done under local anesthetic without needing general anesthesia. It’s a short procedure, and you can go home the same day. Swelling may last 1 to two weeks; however, most patients can return to light activity after only 2 or 3 days. Thanks very much.
