Is Liposuction For Me?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2018 liposuction was the second most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States. I see so many people who exercise and diet but just can’t seem to lose the weight in those stubborn areas–the tummy, “love handles” and thighs. They come in for consultation asking “is liposuction for me”.
The answer depends on a number of factors.
- Am I healthy enough? Underlying medical problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and bleeding disorders may be a reason to avoid elective surgery.
- What kind of shape is my skin in? If the skin has been stretched out from major weight gain, weight loss, or pregnancy, it may not be able to shrink down sufficiently to look good once the fat has been removed.
- Do I have too much extra skin? Sometimes the skin droops or hangs over which would not look good if the fat was removed.
The best way to find out if you are a candidate for liposuction is to come in for a consultation. The plastic surgeons at Gardner Plastic Surgery can make an assessment of the above factors to determine if liposuction is for you, or if you may be suited for some of the many options, we have for fat reduction, including CoolSculpting, SmartLipo, and traditional liposuction.
