LABIAPLASTY

Labiaplasty

Naples Plastic Surgery

Many women elect to have a labiaplasty for a variety of reasons, including cosmetic concerns, genital pain or sexual enhancement.
Patients are given the option of having the surgery while awake under local anesthesia with oral sedation, like Valium, or under deep sedation where they are unaware of what is happening. The typical labiabplasty involves removing a wedge of the excess labia minora tissue so that the lips are shortened and tightened. The wedge technique allows for the preservation of the specialized lip tissues in the normal anatomic position. This prevents dryness after the operation which could lead to long-term irritation.

Hi. I’m Dr. Bonett with Naples Plastic Surgery. Today we’re going to talk about a sensitive, but important topic: labioplasty. Labioplasty means reshaping the skin or folds around the vaginal opening. Excess skin or laxity of that area can happen for various reasons whether it’s just genetics or child birth or weight gain.

The reasons to pursue labiaplasty may be aesthetic or functional.  Sometimes women don’t like the way it looks even in clothing or bathing suits. It can also have functional issues such as pain with intercourse or frequent UTIs. During a labiaplasty we remove the extra skin of the area and we reshape it for a better contour and to help you feel more comfortable.

Our team is here to guide you through the postoperative course and you’re often back doing most things that you want to do within a few weeks. Patients often have increased comfort and boosted confidence after this procedure. Please come see us in consultation to discuss labiaplasty in more detail.

Labiaplasty in Naples

Prior to the procedure, Dr. Leo Baccaro, Dr. Mark Walsh, and Dr. Andrew Bonett meet with their labiaplasty patient to first discuss any concerns and to create a personalized course of action for the procedure. This may include reduction of excess vaginal tissue and possibly hoodectomy, which is a vaginal rejuvenation procedure that removes excess skin covering the clitoris. The surgeon then thoroughly discusses the labiaplasty procedure with the patient and answers any questions she might have.

On the day of the surgery, the surgeon and his team prepare the patient for surgery and administer an anesthetic. After pre-operative preparations, the surgeon sculpts the vaginal lips through surgical extraction to ensure symmetry and to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Labia reduction surgery is performed on an outpatient basis in your doctor’s surgical suite, which features privacy and exclusivity: you will be the only patient in the surgery center at the time of your procedure. In addition, our surgical suites have met the strict regulations required to be endorsed by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities, a testament to our surgeons’ dedication towards patient health.

Recovering from Labiaplasty

Following the procedure, labiaplasty patients may experience bruising and sensitivity for several weeks until they are fully healed. Patients are advised to abstain from rigorous exercise for three weeks and sexual intercourse for at least six weeks after the procedure.
Because labiaplasty is a surgical procedure, patients may experience complications. Some of the most common risks include bleeding and infection. However, your chosen plastic surgeon will work diligently to give you beautiful results through a safe and healthy plastic surgery process.

Dr. Leo Baccaro, Dr. Mark Walsh, Dr. Andrew Bonett, and their surgical teams are dedicated to providing patients unsurpassed attentive care and strive to make themselves available to answer any questions or concerns. Because of their remarkable commitment to patient satisfaction, our surgeons and the Naples Plastic Surgery practice are highly regarded throughout Florida among the top plastic surgery options in the state.
