Naples, FL Plastic Surgeons Describe Popular Add-On Procedures to Compliment a Facelift

The facelift has long been a go-to cosmetic procedure for people seeking facial rejuvenation that can make them look years younger. Significant medical advancements over the past decade have helped surgeons achieve even more natural-looking results. This has led the facelift to become the third most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S. and one of the most sought after at southwest Florida’s Naples Plastic Surgery.

The standard facelift involves making changes to the lower portions of the face via discrete incisions made along the hairline in front of and behind the ears extending down towards the neck. The incisions allow your surgeon to remove or redistribute pockets of fat, tighten muscles, and trim and/or re-drape skin as needed. This all serves to decrease sagging skin, diminish facial lines and wrinkles, eliminate fat around the chin and jaw, and restore facial muscle tone.

Why Patients Seek Facelift Add-Ons

Because the procedure only corrects signs of aging in the lower facial region, some patients are faced with a contrast between the rejuvenated area and other portions of the face that continue to display signs of aging. For this reason, and because medical advances have made the procedures less stressful and with shorter downtimes, many patients are boosting their standard facelift with add-on procedures. Not only do such add-ons provide more overall facial rejuvenation, but also allow for a one-time recovery period rather than the two or more that would be needed for separately performed procedures.

Popular Facelift Add-Ons at Naples Plastic Surgery

Many different procedures can complement a facelift and determining the right one(s) is largely dependent upon signs of aging on other areas of the face and how they might look with the rejuvenated lower facial area. Among the most popular add-ons are:

Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)—the brow lift complements the facelift by correcting age-related drooping eyebrows and easing the appearance of horizontal lines and furrows on the forehead.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)—this surgery addresses sagging skin around the upper and lower eyelid areas and helps reduce the look of constant fatigue that some people experience as they age. Blepharoplasty also helps diminish the appearance of under-the-eye bags and can correct drooping eyelids (ptosis).

Fat Grafting and Facial Implants—your surgeon can enhance the contours of your face with specialized implants in the cheek, chin, or jaw and/or can adjust facial contours by transferring fat cells from another part of the body into the face via syringe.

Minimally Invasive Procedures—many patients also opt to add minimally invasive procedures—such as cosmetic injectables, dermal fillers, and/or laser facial treatment—to enhance the aesthetic success of their facelift. However, these aren’t so much “add-ons” as they are supplemental, because surgeons typically like to perform them after the facelift surgery heals.

Recovering from Multiple Procedures

As previously mentioned, recovery time will be the same for add-on procedures as it is for the facelift in general. The healing time is a one-time process and, because the facelift represents the most extensive surgery, recovery timing will essentially be the same two weeks before a return to social activities and four to six weeks for a complete reduction in swelling. That said, the add-on procedures do cause additional soreness and discomfort in the other areas treated, but this will subside.
