Wide Awake Local Anesthesia Hand Surgery in Naples, FL
At Naples Plastic Surgery, we are very excited to offer patients a relatively new hand and wrist surgery technique that can save them time, inconvenience, and discomfort, while still delivering incredible surgical results. The technique is most commonly referred to by the acronym WALANT, which stands for Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet*.
Our hand and wrist surgery expert Dr. Jason Crespo often compares the experience of WALANT surgery to a visit to the dentist’s office for a minor corrective procedure. Some patients may even find that WALANT surgery and its recovery are easier than a dental procedure since many find surgery to the hand to be less intimidating than oral surgery. While WALANT is relatively new to the US, it has been performed in Canada for over a decade with a very high rate of success.
Most patients who are affected by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Trigger Finger, or De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis could see an incredible improvement in their quality of life following WALANT hand surgery at our Naples office.
Patients who are prone to anxiety may not be suitable candidates for wide awake local anesthesia hand surgery. These patients are still in exceptionally good hands with our practice, as Naples Plastic Surgery has a fully equipped state-of-the-art surgical suite. The same hand and wrist procedures performed with local anesthesia can be performed under regional anesthetic with monitored IV sedation – with the same life-improving results.
*Dr. Crespo will determine whether or not a tourniquet should be used for each patient’s procedure based on his surgical experience and expertise.
Naples Plastic Surgery places the same commitment to superior patient care, comfort, and individualized service on our hand surgery patients we do for our cosmetic patients. We strive to treat you like you’re the only patient in our office each step of the way, and our staff and surgeons go above and beyond to ensure your comfort, relaxation, and that all questions or concerns are addressed.
Also, as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Crespo keeps the final aesthetic result of a procedure at the forefront of his mind alongside the functional result. Plastic surgeons are experts at minimizing the appearance of scarring and helping ensure a full cosmetic recovery after any kind of surgery, and hand surgery is no exception.

This includes a comprehensive discussion with you to identify the benefits, risks and costs associated with each procedure. It may be possible to combine a number of surgical procedures into a single surgery if you desire and if your medical condition permits it.
