Having a double chin may make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Whether you have a small or large frame, it’s entirely possible you may have a double chin that you want to get rid of. Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment for “submental fullness,” also known as the double chin. Kybella® is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally found substance in the body that breaks down and absorbs fat.
Kybella® Treatment Areas
Kybella® is approved for treating areas of fat in the submental region, also known as the area under the chin.
What Is A Double Chin?
Double chins are a common facial beauty condition. Unfortunately, this condition often causes your facial contours and aesthetics to appear imbalanced, older, and heavier.
This condition occurs in a large range of adults. Including people who are not overweight. This condition can be caused by aging, genetics, and weight gain. The area under the chin is typically resistant to traditional weight loss and may need intervention with one of our plastic surgeons, whether Dr. Paul Gardner or Dr. Leo Baccaro.
What is Kybella®?
Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable that contours and improves the appearance of double chins caused by fat. It is credited with the improvement in the appearance of double chin in adults. The safe use of this product when administered by Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro should significantly improve your facial balance aesthetic. It is not recommended, tested, or FDA-approved for use on other areas of the body.
How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella® is a synthetic form of an already naturally occurring substance in our bodies that breaks down and absorbs fat. When injected into the treatment area, Kybella® begins to wipe out fat cells. Once it has destroyed those fat cells, they can no longer store fat and repeated treatments are typically unnecessary.
Your Kybella® Treatment
Kybella® is repeatedly injected by Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro in a procedure that typically lasts about 20 minutes. Speak with Dr. Gardner or Dr. Baccaro about your beauty goals and how you would like your chin profile to appear.
Recovering from Kybella®
Most patients find the procedure to be well within tolerable ranges. You may experience a slight burning sensation during and shortly after the procedure, typically lasting no more than 15 minutes. You may also experience a tenderness to the area following the procedure.
How Long Does Kybella® Last?
Kybella® is thought to be a permanent procedure because the fat cells are destroyed and removed from your body permanently.
